The Pontefract and District Family History Society is an active group of family historians who hold regular monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month, meetings start at 7.30pm. in the Micklegate Methodist Church Hall in Pontefract (WF8 1QG), which is near the Bus Station in Horsefair (we do not have a meeting in August or December). The venue has wheelchair access, free car parking and refreshments are available. All members and visitors are welcome (visitors are asked to donate £1 to the Society funds).

As well as the Parish of Pontefract, which includes the Chapelry of Knottingley the areas of Carleton, East Hardwick and Tanshelf, we also cover the ancient parishes of Castleford, Ackworth, Badsworth, Birkin, Brayton, Brotherton, Darrington, Featherstone, Felkirk, Ferry Fryston, Hemsworth, Kellington, Kippax, Kirk Smeaton, Ledsham, Methley, Monk Fryston, Normanton, Sherburn in Elmet, South Kirkby, Womersley, Wragby and the towns and villages within them.

Most of us have family interests in the region and have good local knowledge. We are happy to help beginners and new members alike and we welcome new subscriptions at any time of the year. We are always pleased to hear from members or potential members and will do our best to be of assistance.

The Pontefract and District Family History Society is run entirely by volunteers working in their spare time. We regret that unfortunately we cannot undertake personal research projects. General enquiries are always welcome and you are welcome to make use of our Search Service and Publications List.
Please note that postal communications with the Society should include a self-addressed envelope. We will reply as soon as possible. Some things do go astray in the post, in the unlikely event that you do not get a reply within 3 weeks, please contact us by email to let us know.
Please contact the site maintainer if you find any broken links, have any suggestions or problems.
